I Am Not Enough (And I’m Okay With That)

My Story of Overcoming Addiction

Today’s lesson is very personal, but I have found that it applies to all aspects of life. I’d like to start by sharing with you a bit about my journey from addiction to a life of service.

At 13 years old, I became trapped in addiction. I spent the following 11 years fighting this addiction completely in secret. Every single one of those 4,000+ days that I spent captive and alone, I prayed for deliverance and assured myself that if I would just try harder, that would surely be enough…

I, would be enough…

But that arrogant belief that I was enough and could fix things on my own, prevented me from having the courage to reach out to others for help.

Then one day nearly 10 years ago now, a miracle happened - my secret struggle was exposed.

It didn’t feel like a miracle at the time. Exposure brought about the most painful and challenging season in my life. Yet, it was also in that season that I experienced more rapid growth than I ever had before. Others came along side me and offered me the tools and help I had been missing all along.

I learned a lot of lessons in that season, but one of the most significant was that I could not grow beyond the length of my own shadow without linking arms with others. This same truth has turned out to be a common determining factor for success with the different men I mentor today.

Why Recognizing that “I Am Not Enough” Opens the Doors for Growth

If you’re feeling stuck in life, whether personally or in your business, ask yourself: “Am I linking arms with others? Or am I always insisting that “I am enough” and “I don’t need help”?

You can’t have it both ways.

In addition to leading a ministry now where I help men break free from addiction and reach their full God-given potential, I also come alongside business owners who acknowledge, “I am not enough”. They’ve realized that without combining forces with someone else to extend their reach, they’ll always get the same results.

It often takes struggling, though, before we recognize and admit that we’ve reached the edge of our own shadow. Looking back on my own life and my fight with addiction, I’ve become thankful for the lessons I learned through those struggles. Recognizing my own limitations has taught me to:

  • have deep relationships with others and experience a type of love I never knew before

  • grow from being a coward to a servant-leader

  • have deeper empathy for those around me

Today, as I have the opportunity to partner with business owners, I still recognize that I am not enough. That is why I build each of my client’s an expert team, hand-selected from my 75 amazing Wizard of Ads partners.

On my own, I have limits. With my partners, I don’t… and therefore, neither do you as my customer.

If you too recognize that on your own, you are not enough to take your business into next-level growth and would like to learn more about linking arms with us, you can schedule an introductory conversation with me below.

As always, I look forward to serving you!
